Whittlesey’s truly local community magazine originally evolved in August 2004 with a simple black and white publication called the Whittlesey Advertiser, which it’s purpose was purely to advertise and promote local businesses and was hand delivered free to around 5000 homes.

Early in 2005 saw the introduction of Discover Whittlesey, although this was published via another organisation, this was more of a community magazine, not only promoting local business, but providing local, news, views, events and other interesting and informative information.

During July 2006, from successful beginnings, the Whittlesey Advertiser, which was still just an advertising magazine, changed from it’s basic black and white format, to full colour, which was a significant progression for the magazine, which in-turn enhanced it’s popularity.

During August 2009, the Whittlesey Advertiser approached Discover Whittlesey, which had also enjoyed a successful and popular existence, with a view to taking over the magazine and incorporating it into the Whittlesey Advertiser to make a much stronger magazine to serve the community. Although the magazine took on a brand new look, in effect it was still the Whittlesey Advertiser, with the same production staff, printers, distributors and advertisers.

This merger led to the first revised issue (Issue 64 - from the original Whittlesey Advertiser) being published in November 2009, with an increased circulation of 6000 copies, which covers all the residential areas of Whittlesey, the town centre, industrial areas and also the village of Eastrea.

The magazine’s aim is to promote local businesses to Whittlesey along with publishing informative information to the residents of Whittlesey, including news, views, events, sport, history, policing, religion, schooling and other interesting information.

Our aim is to attract more local businesses to not only advertise their businesses, but also to contribute, allowing us to provide even more informative information and be part of publication that Whittlesey can be proud of.

Discovering Whittlesey is the only locally based magazine of it’s kind in the area, being run by local people for local people, we are not part of a franchise or part of another group that publishes other magazines for large profit, we are purely and simply dedicated to providing a truly professional publication for the Whittlesey community.
